MT Ferrule

What is MT Ferrule? What is an MPO connector?

An MPO connector is a connector for connecting multiple optical fibers, and MT Ferrule is its core component. MT Ferrule is inside the MPO connector.
*For more information, please see this page.
What is multifiber optical connector part [MT Ferrule]?

Are Hakusan 's SM MT Ferrule pre-angled?

No, the end face is flat. However, when actually connecting, the end face is polished at an angle. Also, it is compatible with pre-angled products from other manufacturers.

Is a special polishing jig required to polish the flat end face at an 8-degree angle?

No. You can use the same polishing jig as for MT Ferrule that are polished at an 8-degree pre-angle. Polishing conditions can be shared. (For measurements at the Ishikawa plant, we use Domaille, and at the development center, we also use SEIKOH GIKEN/NTT-AT. You can also inquire with the respective polishing machine manufacturers.)

If you polish from a flat surface to an 8-degree angle, wouldn't the increased amount of material removal cause misalignment of the hole position and result in variations in accuracy?

The product is designed to be in the correct position after polishing, and we inspect sampled products from the shipping lot for the fiber hole position and fiber angle after polishing, so there are no problems with the accuracy.

What equipment do you use to observe the end face shape?

Data-Pixel(D-Scope/Daisi MT)

How do you clean the end face of MT Ferrule?

There are two main methods for cleaning the end face of MT Ferrule: "wet cleaning" and "dry cleaning." Wet cleaning involves wetting a paper wiper with anhydrous alcohol or a special wiper solution and wiping the end face. After cleaning the end face, it is important to wipe it thoroughly with a dry paper wiper.
On the other hand, the "dry cleaning" method uses a special cleaner with ultra-fine fibers to wipe the end face without using alcohol or other substances. We recommend the dry cleaning method, especially for angled polished connections of 16/24 MT Ferrule. For information on dry cleaners, please see here.

To maintain a good connection, do I mainly need to pay attention to MT Ferrule?

To achieve higher precision optical connections, it is necessary to consider not only MT Ferrule, but also the guide pin and connection method. In particular, it is necessary to select a guide pin of a grade that matches the grade of MT Ferrule. We offer ferrules and pins that match the level of optical connection you require. Please feel free to contact us.

MTCOMPACT

Do I need special polishing jigs or measuring jigs for end face observation?

Special equipment is required, and Domaille/SEIKOH GIKEN/NTT-AT can accommodate this.
After the NDA is signed, we will be able to provide you with the specific part number of the polishing jig.
A special measuring jig is also required. Data-pixel/DORC can accommodate this. (Sumix does not.) If there is a customer request, we can also work with Sumix.

What are the polishing conditions?

The polishing conditions for Slim & Short and Slim are different. Short can be polished under the same polishing conditions as regular MT Ferrule.

How do I connect MTCOMPACT series?

Slim: Clip connection only (usually uses ferrule clip and guide pin)
Short: Clip connection (dedicated clip and dedicated guide pin) or connection via MT-MPO adapter
Slim & Short: Clip connection (dedicated clip and dedicated guide pin) or MTCT connector connection

MTHR

What is the heat resistance of MTHR?

260℃ for 10 minutes (preferably less than that)

What should I be careful of when handling it?

Always perform the reflow test (250-260°C) with the connector and guide pins not mounted (connected) to MT Ferrule. The connector housing and guide pins may expand due to heat, which may result in cracks inside the ferrule. Also, if too much resin adhesive is applied, the thermal expansion may cause damage, so care must be taken when applying the amount of adhesive.
Please note that our company conducts heat resistance confirmation tests at 260°C for 10 minutes. Please refrain from heating at temperatures or for times higher than this.

Quality

What is your product quality system?

We have established a strict inspection system at each stage of production. Based on international IEC standards and inspection criteria, we have established multiple checkpoints before shipping, enabling us to detect any abnormalities early and respond promptly.

Are the products made in Japan?

All MT Ferrule are manufactured in Japan.

What quality advantages do Hakusan 's MT Ferrule have?

Based on strict inspection standards, there is very little variation in quality within and between production lots, maintaining a stable high quality. As a result, excellent optical connection performance can be easily achieved when assembling with optical fiber.

What is the guaranteed value of Hakusan 's MT Ferrule?

Hakusan 's MTs are guaranteed to be of high quality by the dimensional accuracy of the hole position (guaranteed eccentricity) and the mechanical dimensions of the ferrule. By meeting this dimensional accuracy and using standard optical fibers, the design satisfies the specified Insertion Loss (IL) calculated (for SLS, the IL97% value is ≦0.35dB with random connection).

What does Insertion Loss listed in the catalog mean?

Insertion Loss (IL) listed in the catalog is a reference value for random connections (IL of 97% or more for all channels relative to the number of connections is the standard). Insertion Loss varies depending on the fiber used and the precision of the end face processing (polishing conditions and amount of polishing), so it is a reference value. By processing Hakusan 's MT Ferrule within the range specified by international standards such as IEC, the required optical performance specifications are met. Furthermore, if a master cable is used as the reference cord, IL MAX ≦ 0.35 dB is met (however, even in this case, consideration must be given to the type of fiber used).
